The Chinese Emperor - Kontse Trulgyal – was building a magnificent sacred shrine on an island for Tonpa Shenrab’s teachings. The evil maras, the enemies of enlightenment, gathered all evil beings so as to destroy the shrine.
In each path of any practice we can distinguish three aspects: gzhi – the Basis, lam – the Path or cultivation and gyud – the Result.

When it comes to Dzogchen practices, not only a practitioner comprehends the Idea which focuses on original and undisturbed purity of all possible phenomena but also works with one’s karmic visions so that they become the basis for the self-liberation. This is the final result of Dzogchen. Self-liberation is an spontaneous act. Nevertheless it requires practice.

Dzogchen practice is divided into preliminary practice and main practice. The latter comprises Trekchö (including Shine) and Thogal practices. Before practicing Thogal one must complete Trekchö practices which means that a practitioner has experienced the nature of the mind and is able to recognize which visions are illusory. More simply, Trekchö is a contemplation on the Nature of the Mind based on the right Idea.

Thogal, on the other hand, is supposed to allow for the direct experience of illusory nature of visions by means of the production of visions which are not karmic. They can be experienced thanks to the subtle kati canal which runs from the heart to the eyes. In order to achieve this, a trainee practices Thogal visions with the use of methods, such as: sky gazing, sun gazing or isolation in the darkness. The way of gazing as well as the position of one’s body, on which the opening and closing of subtle canals is dependent, is of great importance during these practices.

Lopon Trinley Nyima Rinpocze shall present the methods of Thogal practices, which come from Chag-tri cycle by Dru Gyalwy Yungdrunga – the great jogi of Yungdrung Bon tradition who lived at the turn of 14th and 15th centuries.

(Jarosław Kotas)

Attention: the Rinpoche wishes that only the practitioners who practice Nyndro and Trekchö took part in the retreat. This is the basis for Thogal practice.

In all spiritual traditions of Tibet, the energy, the body and the mind are known as three gates leading to enlightment.
Contemplative physical exercises of the Trul Khor yoga allow us to pass all these three gates using a simple practice that can become a unique tool. Thanks to them, we purify internal obstacles and obscurities of the mind to reach our natural openness, light and all of our positive qualities.
Lama Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche has been encouraging all practitioners to learn these wonderful exercises in order to support our daily practice.
Only few people has got acquainted and finish a four-year long course of Trul Khor from Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud. Unfortunately, the exercises are too demanding and difficult for many other practitioners while the preparation itself is quite time-consuming. That is why, Tenzin Rinpoche has decided to present a series of 16 exercises –‘Magic Movements’- which come from the series of 40 exercises of Trul Khor from A-Khrid (Bon Dzogchen lineage). This new series of 16 contemplation exercises for the body is suitable and recommended by Rinpoche for all practitioners. The practice focuses on each of the five types of prana, which we know from Tsa Lung exercises (Mother Tantra).

Some of Trul Khor yoga exercises are applied in a few clinics in the USA to support patients’ treatment. Its vast array of effects – the influence on the body as well as emotions and the mind gives any practitioner the possibility to make changes both in one’s inner life as well as in the outside environment, i.e.: in relations with others.

Try it out and see that the ancient yoga may be of benefit to you: in sickness, in relationships with others and in your everyday life.

Ciamma Ling

According to Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud, oral transmission of Zhang Zhung being one of the most important cycles of dzogchen in the Bön tradition, the source of our suffering in the samsara can be traced to a single cause: our failure to comprehend that external appearances are only a manifestation of our own innate awareness.
The practice of the Six Lamps carefully investigates the precise manner by which our innate awareness is situated in our body, travels through the channels to arrive at our eyes and, from there, manifests in the form of external appearances. The practice guides us to experience pure vision by recognizing the clear light of self-awareness in all levels of our existence:

in pure space, infinity that is the basis of everything

in the space of our hearts

in subtle channels of our bodies that connect the heart and eyes

in external space surrounding us

in all external appearances being a part of our vision

in visions we experience during the bardo of death

In the course of that retreat, by way of teachings and practice, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche will teach us how to remain in touch with the inseparable condition of emptiness and innate awareness, experiencing all aspects of external appearances in the form of pure vision. The final goal of that practice is to discover the path to self-liberation that makes it possible to experience all visions appearing in the bardo of death as appearances inseparable from our own nature, the nature of Samanthabadra.

July 26 - August 01, 2010

Chamma Ling - Wilga

Rinpoche's teachings have always engaged the three doors of tsa, [the body’s chakras and channels], lung [the subtle energy affecting breath, speech, and emotions] and tiglé [mind]. Opening these three doorways opens the potential for healing and positive change within the individual, in relationships, and in society. The methods for transformation we will explore in depth—the Nine Breathings of Purification, Five Tsa Lung exercises, Five Warrior Syllables Practice, and the Fivefold Teachings of Dawa Gyaltsen—while very simple to learn, are profound in their power to heal deep-seated disturbances of body, energy, and mind and to bring about significant changes in one's life.

It has long been Tenzin Rinpoche's vision, expressed through his books, CD's, DVD's, YouTube videos, and live Internet teachings, to bring these powerful healing practices out of their religious context and to make them available to a broader audience. A successful pilot program conducted at MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas, researching the secular presentation and practice of the tsa lung exercises with cancer patients went on to earn a two million dollar grant for further study from the National Institute of Health. There are so many possible beneficial applications of these simple and profound practices.

Clearly there is a need for change in our world. Rinpoche would like to encourage members of the world-wide sangha to extend this letter of invitation to friends and family members who might not attend a healing retreat taught within a religious context, but who would certainly benefit from learning these practices and using them to promote desired changes in their personal or professional lives, to enhance their relationships and to support positive qualities to come into expression in conventional worldly life. In addition, persons who are experiencing illness or are chronically stuck, unhappy or habitually anxious are also welcome to learn and explore these healing practices this coming summer.

Finally, for students who have already received and have been practicing the Nine Breathings of Purification, the Tsa Lung Movement/Awareness Exercises, the Five Warrior Syllables practice, and the Fivefold Teaching of Dawa Gyaltsen, attending this retreat offers the opportunity to deeply explore these practices in a retreat setting and to learn more about benefiting both self and others.

Garuda Poland’s 2010 Summer Retreat , The Three Doors, will launch a new series of seminars taught by Tenzin Rinpoche and senior students trained by Rinpoche who will present these practices in a secular fashion. Those interested in learning these methods for personal use, those wanting to increase their depth of practice and understanding in order to teach these methods to others and thereby bring these methods to a broader public, and those who wish to undergo further training in order to eventually train future instructors are warmly encouraged to attend this ground-breaking retreat.

Contact: Wojtek Pluciński wplucinski@interia.pl tel. +48 500 602 477

The year ago we started the first cycle from Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud - ngondro, practice that helps. This year we will continue with the second cycle, zhine and tregchod practices from the Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud text. The source of that teachings is a yogi Dru Gyalwa Yungdrung. The aforesaid practices are strictly interrelated to each other, because the mindful concentration deriving from zhine is fundamental for tregchod practice.

THE IMPORTANCE OF ZHINE PRACTICE

You must understand the reason why we practice zhine. Peaceful abiding means the place of the same quality, which is related to the essence of mind. Bon cha is the aspect of emptiness, foundation, base. This is level of base. When the mind becomes empty and thoughts are liberated, the mind comes back to the Base. To the base of something what is unchangeable and never distracted. This base cannot be distracted because of the vajra concept. Why are we distracted so often ? It is because we cannot handle with the movement and with the thoughts, emotions and feelings. They all take us away from the Base. And that is why we need a calm. Despite this distracting role of thoughts and emotions, they additionally obscure our experience. Obscure the Base. Obscure the Rigpa. Obscure all divine qualities and all pure energies up to the moment of such a obscuration in which one looses the knowledge of one`s own identity. That is why we use zhine to overcome all these obscurations and get to know our true nature. Is that clear ?
For somebody lacking the good foundation of zhine, it is very difficult to attain something like Dzogchen experience. We may say like this: zhine, tregchod, thogal. In the case of a weak zhine, it is very hard to practice tregchod properly. And again, without a good tregchod practice, the practice of thogal looks like extremely difficult. The experience deriving from zhine and tregchod is the feeling of stability and overcoming of the certain kind of fear. You feel that independently from the circumstances, nothing in fact can be changed in you. This is a kind of connection. All experiences are connected rather with the root than manifestations. You have a chance to go beyond the feelings of hope and fear. Hope and fear are related to the change. Abiding in the Base is a kind of experience which is out of any changes. Do you agree that fear is bounded to the changes ? The change of something known to us and a change of something what is out of our knowledge. That kinds of changes are the roots for our fear. On the other hand, there is something what never changes. And that thing is a base for what is changing. It must be discovered to let you know that this is what is a base for changing experience in your life. If you endlessly see only that what is changing all the time and not seeing the unchangeable, you will always feel the fear.

Laura Shekerjian - Trul Khor 1 and Tsa Lung
2006-10-30 – We start again with the Trul Khor course. From April 11 to 15 2007 Laura Shekerjian will lead for the second time in Poland the first part of Trul Khor. This time she will also teach Tsa Lung.
The retreat will take place in Warsaw at:
Biosfera, 80 Niepodległości street (read: Niepodleguoshtchi) entrance from Odyńca street (Odintsa).
The retreat will take place in April 11 to 15 2007.

The seminar has been divided into two separate parts. The participants can take part in one or both components of the Trul Khor course but Trul Khor already includes Tsa Lung practices.

The Trul Khor course is the first of a cicle of four parts. In October Alex Chaoul will lead the second and third ones. For those further parts of Trul Khor a knowledge of the previous ones will be needed, but the first part can also be performed as a complete practice.

Trul Khor from 9 am to 2 pm.(teachings - 15,00 euro per day)
Tsa Lung from 4 pm to 6 pm (teachings - 10,00 euro per day)

TSA LUNG
The Tsa Lung practices are very strong methods for maintaining the mind and its awarness on respiration, leading it to different parts of the body so that the practicioner can open and develop qualities that are beneficial and supportive for his/her life and practice.
Those practices familiarise the practitioner with his/her subtle canals and five types of breathing, related to the five elements. The living breath drives the mind towards the several parts of the body (the Chakras), through simple movements of the body, opening them and tuning them up to the experiences, which support the practice of meditation.
The aim of this practice is to achieve a state of balance in our body, in our emotions and our mind.
People who practice Tsa Lung will find a softened and balanced mind, a mind which becomes more clear and stable. Emotions become also more balanced and stable. But the benefits are not limited to the mind and our subtle body.
Nowadays in the US researches are being done on the influence of Tsa Lung Trul Khor Yoga into the process of healing patients with cancer. The National Cancer Institute allowed last year a grant of 2,4 mln dollars to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for researches in that field. One of the program consultants is Tenzin Wangyal Rimpoche, and Alejandro Chaul (who will teach the second and third part in October) is leading them.

TRUL KHOR - „Magic circle”
As Tenzin Wangyal Rimpoche puts it: „Trul Khor is a fantastic everyday practice, allowing in particular to develop and cope with the stress of our contemporary life in society. It has the force to blance the mind and body energy as well as helps to support meditation practice. I strongly invite everybody and recomend to partake in those retreats, to learn this practice for oneself or to become an instructor.”
Trul Khor are not only body postures. Trul Khor is a dynamic yoga, but in order to practice its movements, some preliminary exercises aimed at calming the mind, training breath and feeling the subtle canals are needed. This is a key preparation before developing the necessary movements. Only then the body moves wereas respiration stays still. This allows the body movements to carry the life breath, moving the mind to subtle places which require a deeper care, strenghtening them.
Trul Khor, or the Magic Circle of Yoga Exercices requires a more intense coordination of the body movements than in the Tsa Lung practice. The aim of Trul Khor is to guide life breath, and with it the mind, not loosing in the mean time, on the contrary strenghtening, the state of clear mind. Therefore Tsa Lung exercises are the basis for Trul Khor Yoga.
For those who search for the natural state of mind, who practice Dzogchen, Trul Khor becomes a very strong tool which enables reaching to experiences of the clear nature and stabilizing them.

Laura Shekerjian is a student of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche and has studied as well with the great Bon teachers H.H. Lungtok Tenpai Nyima Rinpoche and Yongdzin Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche. She studied trul khor with Alejandro Chaoul and has taught for several years. She is a psychotherapist practicing in Berkeley, California and is adjunct faculty at JFK University, teaching Tibetan Buddhism and various classes in the counseling psychology program. She has Masters degrees in both Buddhist Studies and psychology, and is actively involved in exploring the integration of the Buddhist and Western paradigms of self-transformation
Since the Trul Khor exercises will be introduced more frequently into our practices, Tenzin Rimpoche encourages us to participate in those retreats.

This year Tenzin Rinpoche will continue with his teachings on tummo practice.

Tummo refers to inner fire, inner heat, or wisdom. Its teachings include both tantric and dzogchen support practices to achieve liberation. These practices require an in-depth understanding of the subtle channels in the body and the movement of prana, or energy, through those channels. To clarify this knowledge and to reinforce the clearing of obstacles and obscurations, students will also learn and engage in the practices of the nine breathings of purification and the physical yogas of tsa lung and trul khor (Tibetan yoga).

It will be helpful if you have previous experiences and teachings of this practice.

July 29 -August 3
